Valentine's Day
-written by Jeremy Gloff
-appears on Autumn (1998)

THE STORY:
During an enchanted autumn we took long walks through brisk darkness.  We’d end up on deserted train tracks or long narrow roads where not one car passed.   Us smashing dead leaves with our shoes while the town was sleepy and still.   I wanted him all to myself.

THE LYRICS:

On Valentine's Day on Valentine's Day
Will you be by yourself?
Or hiding in arms or surrounded by people
Who will never ask you to think
There is a hole that burns
Through my rib-cage and out of my back
These feelings of autumn
Are feeling too familiar...

Hearling bells chime all of the time
You're never at home
These moments of empty we feel we can't spend
One more minute alone
I don't care if your hair is not clean
When you're not talking shallow
You fascinate me
These feelings of winter
Are feeling too familiar

There's room in my heart
There's room in my heart
Come fill it in
There's room in my bed
There's room in my bed
Come fill it in
There's room in my life
There's room in my life
Come fill it in
But you'd rather run around town
With beautiful people who will let you down
Wish feelings of spring
Were feeling more familiar...

I'd be happy to spend this winter
Off the road
That warmness of love that's right
Under my neck
Builds but it never explodes
I don't know if I ever forsee
The chance that you'd give up
Your stupids for me
Wish feelings of summer
Were feeling more familiar
Even vaguely familiar...
