THE STORY:
My friend had a roommate with an mysterious past.  Bags of duct tape stuffed beneath her bed led to the discovery that she was a technically a he.  I called her the night it went down to let her to know I accepted her unconditionally.  And I wrote this song...

THE LYRICS:

She’s the same girl
That we’ve always known
She’s the same girl
That we’ve always known
One thing we mustn’t know
Life of a woman avoiding freak show.

She never felt home inside of her skin
She never felt home inside of her skin
Lies turn into deceit
Best years of her life
Swept from under her feet.

Chorus:
Too much to be unlearned
Before they could understand her

If they knew
They’d never treat her normal
If they knew
They’d never treat her normal
What’s with this secret we’ve found?
How many times has she been smacked around?

Repeat Chorus

New life is gone
Like old secret she hid
Crazy that she could have
Fathered a kid.
