Tonight My Heart Is Golden
-written by Jeremy Gloff

THE STORY:
Making lemonade out of lemons. Oral sex with a boy who famously called me better than ugly but worse than average looking. Or the Starbucks boy I was crushing on. When I gave him my CD and a perfumed note he rolled his eyes. He wasn’t nice about it at all. And a third boy who stole my heart with the dysfunctional incompleteness of his spirit. So the world is full of critics and assholes and haters and crazed boys and if it takes a mantra to be reminded of self-worth, so be it.
THE LYRICS:
My name came up you made a sound
That didn’t speak high of me
Yes it hurts, but I can’t let it scratch me
If I came off scary crude or bold
If I’m invisible cause 28 is too old
It hurts
I cannot let it distract meI don’t lie or steal I try to keep it real
Well tonight my heart is golden
I’m an honest man I look the best I can
Well tonight my heart is golden
Got an open mind and I often find
I’m mixed in all the wrong ways
And I – I wouldn’t trade this for the worldMy rep is bad and wish you would have formed your own opinion - Yes it hurts
I’m looking for some friends here
You said I’m better than ugly but worse than okay
I could never be ugly as the things you say
Janice said it best “you people are amazing”Do I cross your mind anymore?
Yes you do, and everyday
My best interest was never an interest of yours
So I had to throw you away
And the hardest thing that I had to do
Was find the self-respect
To stop chasing you
My baby steps are getting stronger.
