Sharks

THE STORY:
There was a guy in my bed and I couldn’t sleep.  So I rolled onto my floor and wrote about the one I really wished for.

THE LYRICS:

Sharks in the ocean have shiny teeth
Pretty to look at
And vacancy beneath.
I am not simple enough to be a clone
Stupidly drawn to a shark of my own.

Seeing sweat evaporate off the floor
It’s not who you love here
It’s who you settled for
Stepped in puddles deeper
Than the talking we do
Your words disappoint
And your drugs are eating at you.

Chorus:
Once again my lucky chapstick
Brought no luck
Once again my lucky chapstick
Let me down.

Bare-chested boy
He’s a catch on the scene
Mid twenty easily connects
With eighteen
Hell of a dresser
I love how you dance
Pictures of us
In a Sid and Nancy romance

Sharks in the ocean hug goodnight
They back-stabbed or fucked
Everybody they hold tight
I’m aloof to you
When you’re in my sight
Wished I was younger and dumber
Most of tonight…

Repeat Chorus

I would have given up
Everything for you…
Almost would have given up everything for you…
