Perfect As You

THE STORY:
After the attack on the world trade centers there were these astronauts who could see the cloud of smoke rising from New York City.  To me that was a chilling, yet somehow morbidly pretty story about how futile and fragile and troubled our planet is.

“Perfect As You” is about creating a bubble.  The world is absolutely mad, yet when you find someone to be a team with together you create your own solitary and safe existence amongst the chaos. Once that union of unconditional trust and comfort is created, perhaps the sting of the world is lessened, and the tragedies of the past are no longer relevant.

In 1989 as a freshman in high school I wrote a pop song called “I’ll Catch You Now.”  The lyrics to the verses were corny, but years later I still loved the chorus.  I lifted that chorus word-for-word and used it in “Perfect As You”.

THE LYRICS:

Astronauts see it in the air
Buildings are falling
And there’s danger everywhere
The insignificants I let surround me
Makes me smile to know
Your thoughts have touched upon me

Chorus:
From a fairy tale you’re my fallen angel
If you’re not mine I’ll rewrite the pages
So I’ll catch you now you’re my fallen angel
Not too many people are as perfect as you

Rising up from underneath the water
The mail is killing and the night was hurting me
The insignificance I let surround me
Fades away when your leg’s kicking into me

I could give my body to you
Big deal I’ve done that many times before
So I offer my arms to you
And that’s something that I’ve never given
Someone before.
