THE STORY:
My friend Heather rescued me from the cruel winter of 1997.  We flew to Florida and I met her family.  Her brother…a wise and grizzled native Floridian…had written this instrumental years and years ago.  To his song I put my words.  I would return to New York for ten more months and then I would leave for good.

THE LYRICS:

Wish this had been my life
Fly thru the trees where everything's flying
I'd never touch the ground again
It is like my mamma said
Life's a very long period of longing
All in all never needed more than this

Here's a little light passed down
from a woman of the mountains
Beauty mirrors could never see
And in one simple look stories
of a life could only be unspoken
We exchanged a look
but he didn't see a thing

Moonlit man with my guitar
And the faces here know what good feelings are
Joyful moments become the saddest ones I
know-always wishing for 5 minutes ago.

Back to the bus's wheels-40 hour disorientation-
But at least I'm thinking clear
I can still hear the roar
Of the dogs
While the woman waved goodbye at the door
Leaving for the same old place again
But since I'm happy why bother being sad again?
