Lovesong For A Stranger
-written by Jeremy Gloff
-appears on Romantico (2003)
THE STORY:
There was a gay boy in Tampa who was in a rock and roll band. I didn’t know him…but I felt like I needed to. So this song was written overnight and I left the tape on his car the following day. All this erratic romantic adventurousness led to absolutely nothing.
THE LYRICS:Knew you were someone I wanted to know
The first time I saw you a century ago
Three years of erosion I’m trying to mend
The answers lie inward - I could still use a friendRock and roll cities I’d love to explore
To vocalize thinking I usually ignore
The deconstruction I’m trying to end
I heard you’re committed - I could still use a friendThe heretics wonder if there is stability
The hedonists wonder if there is security
Cause in a world of ABCD people
Sometimes it takes years to find your Z!Heard you’re low key and I’m always extreme
I bleed in a whisper you bleed in a scream
There’s exile and solace tonight I’ll pretend
Marry me stranger or at least be my friend.
