J-Glo and Sassy - Valentine
(released on February 14th 2002)
The Story:
An
idea of mine that never saw fruition was releasing a companion album to
AMERICA IS LONELY TONIGHT called AMERICA IS DANCING TONIGHT.
Throughout the years a few odds and ends had accumulated that
didn't fit the scheme of any of my solo projects. "Da Biscuits"
was written with a friend in Atlanta in 1996. The concept of "17
Year Old Sex Machine" came about while mopping the floor at Arby's in
1998. "I Wanna Touch You" was originally written in 1992, then
reworked in 1996, then once again in 2001.
One evening singer Susy Martian and I met for cheap Italian and she
proposed the we do something controversial. I thought back to the
six song demo of the odds and ends I'd collected throughout the years.
We ended up using all six of songs on this album along with
some of Susy's tracks, and some collaborations. We assumed the
aliases J-Glo and Sassy and raised hell for a few months. We got
kicked off stage at the Sarasota Film Festival. We did a kareoke
tour. We had our CD release party at an upscale Japanese bistro.
We sent out fake press releases detailing our arrests and other
(false) misadventures. We made a ridiculous appearance on public
access television. "Da Biscuits" became *the* underground party
hit of 2002. But time always moves forward. Susy ended up
getting pregnant, and I began work on my ROMANTICO project. J-Glo
and Sassy will always hold a special place in my heart.
