Iodine
-written by Jeremy Gloff and Phillip Reardon

THE STORY:
A boy from Ocala used cut and paste and sent me a poem he’d written. My guitar was in my hands and immediately his poem became our song. When your flesh is bloody and damaged and infected applying iodine begins the healing process. The immediate sensation is one of great pain and discomfort. But the pain subsides and so begins the miracle of rejuvenation. Iodine is a lot like love.
THE LYRICS:Why’s it I smile when I am close to you?
Why’s it I get butterflies like I do?
You’re oh so new to me!
So soft with your pigtails and your iodine…Candlelight shower foggy mirrors with your name
I wish I could see your mouth speaking my name
And oh if you do!
Love to find how your lips feel
And taste your iodine…I knew that you were constant and true
(Hearts all around)
Lost control differently than I used to do.
Never found bliss in pillows or masochists
(Clutching a pillow)
Work it unearth it you’re worthy of this.
Unfolding me you wrapped around me
(Screaming a name)
Felt my little age’s serenity.
Tengo miedo de ser romantico
(No longer clueless…alone in the dark)
But I’m accepting the things I can change…You’re not at arm’s length
So I cannot hold you
I wish I could shrink the distance
To this room.
Oh how I feel tonight!
This song is not crying
But longing for your iodine…
