His Mother
-written by Jeremy Gloff
-appears on Still Feel It (1994)
THE STORY:
Much of “Still Feel It” was about my straight best friend Ryan. One night we stayed at a friend’s house…I told him tearfully in the middle of the night I was in love with him. And so began our decline. Ryan was cool about everything. It was I who couldn’t handle it…
THE LYRICS:
She signed a paper
And became his mother
And for lack of a better word
He calls her by that name
I think of him as my child
And it seems like he wants me to go away
I don’t know if it’s adolescent rebellion
Because now sometimes sometimes
It seems like he wanted me to stay
When I met him he was suicidal
And now he acts like his problems have all gone
away
But he’s built so many walls
The breathing wall of Jericho
And I guess I’ll never know who he really is
She signed a paper
But she is not his mother
And now we live in two separate worlds
We’re a world apart
And I am the one to blame
And I wonder if he
Even remembers my name…
