THE STORY:
A preliminary recognition of self-defeating and self-destructive behavioral patterns. At the time I said this song was about a girl we knew - it was really about me and how fucked up I knew I was.
THE LYRICS:
Little girl in an unmade bed
Unfinished words in her unmade head and I said
“Don’t let him take you down”
But she is too blind to see
Through his transparent sincerity so I said
“He’s only gonna take you down”
Chorus:
He ain’t ever gonna change
He’s gonna take you and throw you away again
I guess we never learn
She creates lovers out of her friends
They don’t love her she only pretends
So I said,
“You’re acting like you’re a fool”
She hates when a girl is by her guy
She’s possessive and bitter and they wonder why
So I said
“Don’t let him take you down”
Repeat Chorus
You think by now
She’d have learned the game
Two obsessions later she will think the same
You know, they all think she’s crazy
She’s in a prison
She’s in a cell
He’s fooled her into thinking
That he meant well
Why do you lock yourself away?
Repeat Chorus
You ain’t ever gonna change
They recycle you over and over again
You ain’t ever gonna change
I guess we never learn.
