Crazy
-written by Sadie Jay
-appears on Autumn (1998)
THE STORY:
My friend Sadie wrote this. The song’s character--a shut in---a misunderstood outcast holed away from a distant and unflinchingly cruel world---it was like looking in a mirror.
THE LYRICS:
See the boy
Sitting alone in his room
He feels so crazy and they
Don't understand what he feelsThey don't understand what he says
They don't understand the things
that he feels
And he thinks that he may cry
Maybe he's crazy...He feels like a stranger
To his family and to his friends
How can he even
Call these people friends? They're just people who smile at him
Politely
The others stare and ridicule him
They look at him like he's crazy
Perhaps he's crazy...He certainly is not normal
He's nothing like his friends
He sits alone and he wonders
If there's anyone
Anyone like him.He has met no one
Even remotely like him
There's someone out there
Someone who is not hereSomeone he read about once in a book
But you cannot talk to a book
So he makes notes in the margins
He wonders if he is crazy...
(Why do I feel so old
How did I get so old?)See the boy
Sitting alone in his room
He is not crazy...
